Boys and Girls Club
I'm excited to announce that the Boys and Girls Club will be coming to Bullitt Lick Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Boys and Girls Club Experience
Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana (BGCK) is committed to inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those most in need of our services, to realize and develop their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Focusing programming in three main areas: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles, BGCK offers a variety of programs to strengthen and build youth identity, confidence and life skills. According to national statistics, 1 out of every 5 students leaves school every day with no place to go and most juvenile crimes occur during the hours of 3pm and 7pm. It is a fact that today’s youth risk being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. Through collaboration with Bullitt Lick Middle School, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana is launching an after-school program, bringing the club experience directly into the school environment. The club will be open Mondays through Thursdays from school’s end until 6 p.m. This program offers benefits to families by providing a safe place and structured activities for their child during often unsupervised after-school times. The club appeals to the middle school aged group for its fun and engaging “club” identity and atmosphere. In addition, students participating in afterschool extra-curricular activities can join the club before or afterwards.
Under the direction of experience youth development professionals, all club members are exposed to opportunities to learn and grow. Members receive homework help as well as engage in high-yield learning activities geared towards making learning “fun”. Through direct collaboration with the school, BGCK is able to provide targeted assistance to Bullitt Lick club members directly related to academic challenges that they may be experiencing. Philanthropy and community responsibility provides a focus for members to engage in community service projects directly to the school and surrounding neighborhoods and community. By focusing on physical, emotional and social health through activities and programs, members will explore the benefits to nutrition, healthy eating and making responsible behavioral and social choices.

Wrestling Club at BLMS
Bullitt Lick Middle School and the Griffin Wrestling Club will be working in conjunction to offer a youth wrestling club here at Bullitt County schools to make our high school team stronger. The club will consist of Bullitt county students ages 5-15. The club will be named the Griffin Wrestling Club and will hold practices two times a week at Bullitt Lick Middle school. Coach Nick Ackley ran a wrestling club in Nelson County for ten years and is excited to bring the club to Bullitt Lick Middle and Bullitt County. There will be a onetime membership fee per year for each wrestler. The money will be used to purchase uniforms, headgear, and insurance for each student.
The Griffin Wrestling Club will be teaching young kids how to wrestle folk style wrestling which is what high school teams currently use now. This sport is a great confidence builder for any age. Coach Ackley not only teaches youth how to wrestle but also sportsmanship and team building skills.
For more information please call Coach Nick Ackley.

Attendance
Attendance Reminders
I would like to stress the importance of students being at school each day. However, if your child needs to miss school due to an illness, please read the following reminders.
- Students are allowed 6 parents notes and 10 doctor notes per school year.
- If you use a parent note for a tardy, it counts as 1 parent note.
- If your child is out multiple days and you send a parent note in, each day counts as 1 parent note.
- You have 5 days from the date of the absence to turn parent notes in.
- After the limit has been met on doctor notes, each additional absence will require additional verification in order to be excused.
- After the limit has been met on doctors notes, you will need to have a Medical Excuse Form filled out by the doctor. We will send you a letter along with 2 Medical Excuse Forms once the limit of doctor notes have been met. Additional Medical Excuse Forms can be picked up in the office.
- If you child accumulates 6 unexcused absences, they will be referred to the Department of Pupil Personnel for final notice.
- If after receiving final notice, if your child continues to accumulate unexcused absences, they will be referred to the Court Designated Worker.
One of the biggest problems we encounter at BLMS is students not turning in notes to the office. Please stress to your child the importance of turning their notes into the office.
If you have any questions, please call Melissa Hoben at 502-869-5407.
